The Charlie Derrick Bursary Event

It was plainly obvious to visitors to the CoriTap how much the friends and famly of Charlie Derrick held him in high esteem. A charity in his honour was created following the young musician’s untimely death in a car crash at the age of 20, in 2003.

The  Unsigned Bands event in Weston-super-Mare is funded by the charity and the most recent event was the CoriTap MiniFest in support of the Charlie Derrick Bursary, on Sunday August 28, 2011.

The event was organised by his great friend and fellow musican, Steve Williams and was attended by Charlie’s parents, and many of the musician friends who came along  to help raise funds for the charity……

Steve Williams: "I'm privileged to be joint trustee of the Charlie Derrick Bursary, a charity that aims to raise money under the banner of the "Footprint" organization in order to provide equipment, training and musical opportunities for young people who may not otherwise be able to afford it. Charlie was an amazing musician and a wonderful friend. It's in his memory that this charity was started, and it is his legacy that perpetuates it."

The Charity's is an ethos reflected very strongly by Photos-4-Bands, which was set up for the very same reason – to enable young upcoming musicians and bands gain publicity and promotional material at a price that is realistic, to offset the often exhorbitantly high fees.
